This month we will continue our journey of building, rebuilding, and strengthening our foundations in Christ. Our Focus this month of June is: “building our foundations with diligence”.
Diligence is defined as ‘conscientious hard work and perseverance, particularly regarding a relationship with God’ (Bible gateway dictionary).
The KJV dictionary also defines diligence as a ‘steady application in business of any kind; constant effort to accomplish what is undertaken; an exertion of the body or mind without unnecessary delay or sloth, due attention, care, heed, heedfulness, assiduity, industry’.
In Genesis chapters 1 and 2, God worked for six days and created the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them. The number six is symbolic of man because God created man (male and female) on the sixth day (Gen. 1:26). God ended His work on the sixth day and rested on the seventh day (Gen. 2:1-3).
The Israelites were instructed by God to work for 6 days and to rest on the seventh day (Exo. 20:9-1, 23:12). God also commanded the Israelites to sow in their fields for six years and to rest in the seventh year (Exo. 23:10-11).
The New Testament believer is instructed by God to be diligent and not slothful or lazy in everything we do (Ecc. 9:10).
The bible says in Prov. 13:4, “The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich”.
Apostle Paul did not tolerate laziness and commanded the Thessalonian Christians that “the one who is unwilling to work (or makes excuses not to work), shall not eat” (2 Thess. 3:10).
God expects every believer to be diligent in obeying His voice and Word in building the foundation of their life, family, ministry, business, etc.
Heb. 6:11-12 “And we desire that every one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end, that ye be not slothful, but followers of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises”.
Diligence requires discipline, tenacity, faithfulness (faith), and perseverance.
This month we will allow the Holy Spirit to deal with every root of slothfulness and spiritual laziness in our foundation and we will arise with increased grace, hope, faith, and patience to rebuild our foundation and inherit all the promises of God in every area of our lives, family, ministry, finances, etc.
‘But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all — yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me’ (1 Cor. 15:10).
Just like the Apostle Paul, may you receive the grace of God to labour abundantly in all that you do, knowing without a doubt that God will also reward the diligent (Deut. 28:1-2, Heb. 11:6b).
